The Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Monday approved the appointment of Mike Pompeo, the candidate of US President Donald Trump, as new foreign minister.
Pompeo is a former intelligence officer and politician from the Republican Party and is a "hawk" of the Trump administration, which took power on January 20, 2017.
Pompeo needs 51 votes in the Senate to approve his appointment.
