Pompeo: Iran will face the wrath of the entire world
NEW YORK (Reuters) - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has warned Iran against seeking nuclear weapons, saying it would face "the wrath of the entire world," pointing out that military action against Iran was not in anyone's interest.
"Tehran's attempt to acquire nuclear weapons will not be in its interest, regardless of the fate of the nuclear agreement between Iran and the six countries in 2015," Pompeo said.
"I hope they understand that the anger of the whole world will fall on them if they strengthen their nuclear program. Apart from operating additional centrifuges used to enrich uranium, if they begin to move to an atomic weapons program, this may be considered unacceptable by the world, and we will end up on a path that I think will not be in Iran's interests. "
But Pompeo said he was not talking about a US military response. "When I talk about anger, do not confuse it with military action. "When I talk about anger, I mean moral shame and economic power that pressure them, I am not talking about military action, and I hope that this is never the case, because it is not in anyone's interest."
