The Turkish Foreign Ministry has warned its citizens, who are in the province of Basra or wishing to go to it, to get closer to the places that are witnessing protests.

In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry recommended Turkish citizens to follow the warnings and statements issued by them and the Embassy of the country in Baghdad regarding developments in Basra.

The statement added that "Ankara is watching with concern the ongoing violence in the province of Basra," saying "Turkey's readiness to provide all kinds of support necessary for the return of security and prosperity to it."

The unrest and violence in Basra has left 11 dead since the beginning of September and 26 since the start of the protests on July 9, according to the latest toll of the High Commission for Human Rights (linked to parliament).

The protesters demand improved public services and job creation, denouncing the ruling class and accusing it of corruption.
