    US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met Wednesday with President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, House Speaker Mohammad Halabousi, Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hakim and US troops after arriving in Baghdad on an unannounced visit. 

    Pompeo and government officials did not make any comments to the media.
    The visit comes about two weeks after US President Donald Trump's visit to Iraq to inspect US troops without meeting any officials. 

    Baghdad is the second leg of a regional tour by Pompeo, which began Tuesday in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
    Trump, on December 26, paid a surprise visit to US troops in hours, his first visit to a conflict zone since his election two years ago.
    Although the government authorities declared victory over the terrorist organization Da'ash in December 2017, the organization still maintains small cells and pockets in mountainous and desert areas, especially near the border with neighboring Syria, and remains capable of launching attacks.

    The President of the Republic Barham Salih, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, on Wednesday with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo the latest developments in the political and security situation in the country and the region. 
    He stressed the need for a constructive dialogue among all parties to achieve security and peace, ease tension and instability in the Arab and regional arenas and promote international and regional cooperation to end extremism and defeat terrorism once and for all. 
    According to a presidential statement, President Saleh stressed that Iraq is keen to build balanced relations with all friendly and allied countries based on respect for sovereignty and constancy and the independence of its national decision. 
    The President of the Republic to the depth of the relationship between the two countries and develop them to achieve the common interests of the two friendly peoples, and the importance of the American contribution to the reconstruction of Iraq and the advancement of its economy and the upgrading of all sectors.
    He praised the United States' support for Iraq politically and security, especially in its war against terrorism and the achievement of the great victory over gangs.
