    The Federal Supreme Court of Iraq on Wednesday dismissed the case against Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi about his French nationality and whether he gave up when he was appointed to form the current government in October. 
    The Supreme Federal Court said in a statement that it "held its meeting under the chairmanship of Judge Medhat al-Mahmoud and the presence of all members of the judges and considered a lawsuit in which the plaintiff both the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister." 
    She added that "the prosecutor said that the President of the Republic assigned the current Prime Minister to form a Council of Ministers, contrary to the laws, which does not allow a person with a foreign nationality to take a sovereign position and must abandon his acquired nationality." 
    The statement pointed out that "the plaintiff asked the Federal Supreme Court to confirm the concession of the defendant on his French nationality acquired, otherwise the provision unconstitutional mandate and the abolition of the first order of the President of the Republic."
    The spokesman said that "the Federal Supreme Court found that the subject of the abandonment of foreign nationality by the Iraqi, who holds a high sovereign or security position was stipulated by the Constitution, but stipulated that the abandonment of foreign nationality acquired by law is issued later." 
    He pointed out that "the Federal Supreme Court went to the request of the plaintiff to confirm the abandonment of the second plaintiff, the Prime Minister, the French nationality acquired is out of its jurisdiction and accordingly decided to respond to the lawsuit for not based on the support of the Constitution." 
    Iraqi lawmakers introduced the law of dual nationality to the parliament in 2009, but the House of Representatives in its previous sessions and within 9 years was unable to vote on it, because of differences and intersections between political parties.
    The differences between the political blocs are concentrated on the unwillingness of some parties that have influence within parliament to legislate this law, because it mainly affects their presidents, which forces them to abandon the citizenship of the second state. 
    Former Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has British citizenship, although he was the highest executive in the Iraqi state, while Iraqi media in 2014, Abadi abandoned the nationality acquired, and return to Britain. 
    Finally, the issue of the new Prime Minister Adil Abdelmahdi, French nationality, was raised and whether he would abandon it when voting on his cabinet and government program. 
    Despite the relative ambiguity surrounding the possession of dual national political figures, Iraqi media reported that there are about 15 prominent political figures with other nationalities.
    This information indicates that the most prominent of these figures are: Former Speaker of Parliament Salim Jubouri, holder of Qatari nationality, while the former President Fuad Masum and former leader of the Sadrist Bahaa al-Araji, Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, and the Sunni leader Saleh al-Mutlaq, British nationality, To Abadi.
