BAGHDAD / A member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Abdul Hadi al-Saadawi, said Wednesday that the Iraqi-Jordanian trade agreement signed by Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi caused the termination of the southern ports and the migration of most traders.
"The Iraqi-Jordanian trade agreement signed by Abdul-Mahdi this week led to the termination of border crossings in the central and southern areas and affected them greatly," Al-Saadawi told Iraq News.
He added that "there are many traders began to migrate from the border crossings in the provinces of the south, because of the reduction of customs tariffs on Jordanian goods and focus only on one port, the port of Trebil."
Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi signed a trade partnership with Jordan this week, which aims at selling Iraqi oil to Jordan at low prices and raising the customs tariff for 371 Jordanian products, which was rejected by many MPs, traders and the popular media. Finished
