BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A member of the parliamentary Human Rights Committee, Arshad al-Salhi, confirmed on Tuesday that there were "absentees", adding that his committee was seeking to legislate the law of "enforced disappearance". Salhi said in a press statement, "The Commission on Human Rights closely follows the subject of forced disappearances." "We want to legislate the enforced disappearance law until we reach a positive outcome." "There are absentees and we have to reveal them." The first deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Hassan al-Kaabi, called on the Human Rights Commission to provide him with reports and official documents proving the allegations of enforced disappearance. This claim came in response to the statement of the member of the Board of Commissioners Anas al-Azzawi, "who announced the existence of 7663 cases of enforced disappearance during the past two and a half years.[/size]
