America accuses Iran of "militias" of being behind the Kirkuk attack

After the US-led international coalition against ISIS announced the killing of an American and the injury of several soldiers in a missile attack targeting a military base in Kirkuk, American military sources accused the "Iraqi militias of Iran" of being behind the attack.

Defense officials also told the American magazine that the military base in Kirkuk on Friday was targeted by a missile attack, killing a contractor in the Pentagon and wounding several US service personnel and Iraqi personnel at the site.
Meanwhile, a senior Pentagon official, who asked not to be identified, explained that "after the attack, a system of launching an abandoned Katyusha missile was found near the base."
Almost 11 to 14 missiles struck the base, according to a preliminary estimate. A missile also hit a storage facility that ignited the ammunition inside.
For its part, the Pentagon has not yet formally held responsibility for any party for the incident, nor has any group claimed responsibility, although a number of non-state armed elements are still active throughout Iraq.
It is reported that Washington has directly blamed Tehran for the recent wave of missile attacks targeting military installations linked to the United States.
Rocket attacks were repeated in the recent period, the most recent of which were sites such as Ein Al-Assad Air Force Base, near Baghdad International Airport this month.
After the recent attacks, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a direct warning to Iran. "We should also take this opportunity to remind Iranian leaders that any attacks on their part or their representatives of any identity that harms the Americans, our allies, or our interests will be answered decisively," he said at the time.
He continued, " [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] must respect the sovereignty of its neighbors and stop immediately providing deadly assistance and support to third parties in Iraq and throughout the region."
