The last time NASA opened the door for nomination in 2017, 18,000 people applied, and only 12 of them were selected.
NASA said it has employed 350 people since the 1960s, and today there are 48 astronauts belonging to the Astronauts Unit (responsible for selecting and training astronauts to participate in spaceflight) based in Houston, Texas.
The main task for the new candidates is to ensure that the United States rotates at the International Space Station to carry out missions for about six months.
NASA will name the new recruits "Artemis generation", in the name of the United States' return to the moon program in 2024 and possibly Mars in the next decade.
Those who do not hold higher degrees can apply for nomination if they have been enrolled in a two-year PhD program. The requests of doctors and pilots who have flown for more than a thousand hours will also be taken into consideration. is over
