Today, Saturday, the International Coalition affirmed its respect for Iraqi sovereignty, noting that its mission is limited to defeating the terrorist "ISIS" organization.
The spokesman for the Joint Task Force in the International Coalition, Colonel Wayne Maruto, told the Iraqi News Agency that this force "is present at the invitation of the Iraqi government and works in close coordination with it, with full respect for the sovereignty of Iraq."
He pointed out that "the mission of the Joint Task Force, in cooperation with the Iraqi security forces and the Peshmerga, is to defeat the terrorist ISIS and its remnants in specific areas in Iraq and Syria," noting that "this follows conditions for follow-up operations that will increase regional stability."
The international coalition had previously denied the presence of combat forces in Iraq. The media office of the joint task force of Operation "Solid Resolve" (which is conducted by the International Coalition) told the Iraqi News Agency that the talk about the arrival of combat forces to Iraq is untrue.
He added, "All individuals in Iraq are advisers working under the authority and command of the Iraqi Joint Operations and the Iraqi government."
The US-led international coalition in Syria and Iraq to fight the terrorist organization "ISIS" supported the Iraqi forces in their war against the organization, until Baghdad announced in December 2017, liberating its entire territory from the grip of "ISIS" after about 3 and a half years of confrontations with it.
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Parliament issued, on January 5, 2020, a decision recommending the government to cancel the security agreement with the United States, end the presence of foreign forces in the country, as well as cancel the request for assistance from the international coalition.
