An Iraqi political source revealed, today, Sunday, a proposal submitted by the Iraqi government to both Jordan and Egypt to hold the tripartite summit in Baghdad next Thursday, after it was postponed at the end of last month.
The source said: "Baghdad submitted a proposal to hold the summit next Thursday," stressing that "Egypt has no problem with the date and is waiting for the Jordanian position."
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, announced on Friday, March 26, that the tripartite summit, which was scheduled to be held at the end of March in Baghdad with the Egyptian President and the Jordanian King, was postponed to the very near future, due to the collision of the two trains in Upper Egypt. Killed about 20 people and injured about 200 others.
Last Monday, the foreign ministers of Iraq, Egypt and Jordan held a coordination meeting in Baghdad to arrange for the summit between their heads of state, stressing their aspiration to hold it as soon as possible.
The foreign ministers of the three countries discussed coordinating efforts between their countries to "face international and regional challenges and issues, including the Palestinian issue, Syria and Yemen," in addition to economic cooperation.
