Shafaq News / On Thursday, the local authorities in Anbar governorate began a broad plan to control the large rise in prices of goods and foodstuffs, in conjunction with the escalation of citizens' complaints about several times higher prices, which affected the purchasing power of the citizen, especially those with limited income.
The mayor of Fallujah district, Muayad Al-Dulaimi, told Shafaq News, "The failure to restore the exchange rate of the dollar to what it was, in addition to the decision to apply the curfew during the month of Ramadan, two things made the price hike an expected and natural thing, and merchants cannot be held accountable if they are done." Al-Dulaimi stressed, "A directive has been made to publish members of the national security apparatus and organized economic crime in all the governorate's markets in civilian clothes, with the aim of monitoring prices and stopping manipulators, in the event that prices are raised too much."
He added, "The discussions with the central government about finding solutions that contribute to limiting the rise in prices have failed, but there is communication with the Speaker of Parliament, to find a solution for at least the needy families, and a measure will soon be announced that will contribute to easing the burden on the lower-income brackets in Anbar." .
For their part, Anbar residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the government's measures to limit the rise in prices, indicating that they are accustomed to that, when the month of Ramadan approaches each year.
Citizen Abdul Aziz Jawdat (32 years old) expressed his anger at the high prices, saying, "I work as a wage earner in a store for two hundred thousand dinars a month, and the high prices mean that I will not be able to provide a living for ten days at least."
Meanwhile, Fuad Talib (46 years old) mocked, "We, the poor, have two rewards in Ramadan, the reward for fasting and the reward for patience for thieves, who used to take advantage of this month to raise prices."
Talib added, to Shafaq News Agency, if the government cannot provide any amount that would help us, then they should lift the curfew so that we can work and provide a living for our families.
On the other hand, one of the owners of wholesale food commodities stores, Assem Sudan, said during his interview with Shafaq News, that "they have nothing to do with the high prices, and they are also affected by this matter, as they owe hundreds of dollars to Baghdad merchants, and most of them have suffered heavy losses."
