{Politics: Al-Furat News} The Director General of the Legal Department in the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Abdullah Al-Zaidi, announced that the draft law "Recovering the proceeds of corruption" had been officially handed over to the House of Representatives.
Al-Mukhtasar al-Mufid .. In important news, you can find it on the Al Furat News channel on the Telegram .. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Al-Zaidi said in a televised statement: "A lot of stolen public money is inside the country, and we expect heated discussions about the draft law in the House of Representatives, and we hope to legislate it as soon as possible," noting that "the stolen funds amount to $ 150 billion."
He explained, "The law has given a strong weapon to the judicial and integrity establishment in pursuing the corrupt, even after they leave office and refer them to retirement, and even after the death of the accused, the prosecution to recover the money does not end."
Al-Zaidi promised the draft law that “the bold and sensitive, and the presidency of the republic did not approach it and ask permission from it about it, because if that happened, it would not come out of this law,” affirming that “those with influence and political influence will be included in the law of recovering the stolen money.”
He expected, "The law will pass in the House of Representatives, and there will be some observations on it, and it may not remain in its current form."
He stressed that "the law establishes a subsequent and previous control and will oblige all government officials to disclose their financial liabilities and give agency to the supervisory authorities in pursuing their money inside and outside Iraq," noting that "the law monitors balances that exceed 500 thousand dollars and prosecution will take place at all times."
Al-Zaidi revealed, "the comprehensiveness of the law granting 1% to the informant about the value of corruption, which amounts to 500 million dinars, which is an encouraging issue after the judicial ruling is decided on it, which is an important step and the paragraph was put in place because of the presence of people who have important information that they do not share, and the reward may push them to divulge it."
He pointed out that "the person convicted of corruption has been dismissed from the public office and will not participate in any dealings with the state to close all doors before him as a severe punishment against him."
And the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, announced in a speech last Sunday that the draft law on "recovering the proceeds of corruption" would be submitted to the House of Representatives, in a step to combat corruption, restore Iraqi funds smuggled abroad, and bring the corrupt to justice, indicating that the draft law includes practical, deterrent, pre-emptive and subsequent measures To recover corruption money.
Saleh pointed out that cross-border corruption has cost Iraq huge sums of money estimated in billions, and governmental and international statistics and data estimate that the total of Iraq's oil imports since 2003 are close to a thousand billion dollars, including at least 150 billion dollars of corruption deals that have been smuggled abroad. And it was enough to put the country in a better condition.
He called for the formation of an international coalition to fight corruption along the lines of the international coalition against ISIS, stressing the impossibility of eliminating terrorism except by drying up the sources of its financing based on corruption money as a political economy of violence, stressing that corruption and terrorism are interlinked and mutually exclusive, and one perpetuates the other.
