    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

More than 580 work injuries sustained Iraqi workers during the first 6 months of this year throughout Iraq, amid the lack of safety procedures and conditions for most economic activities in the public and private sectors, threatening the lives of workers.

The assistant director of the National Center for Occupational Health and Safety at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Mashreq Abdul-Khaleq, said in a statement that "the inspection teams of the center monitored accidents and injuries as a result of the lack of health and safety conditions in the work environment and the lack of awareness of the importance of their availability in order to preserve the lives of its workers."
Abdel-Khaleq added, "Monitoring and recording work injuries in various sectors and economic activities is done through cooperation with the health authorities authorized under the Labor Law."
Abdel-Khaleq stated that "disseminating a culture of occupational health and safety, would reduce injuries to preserve the elements of production, foremost of which is the human element, but most projects do not give this aspect the required importance, which puts the lives of workers at risk."
He explained, "The province of Babylon recorded the highest rates of injuries with 199 during the first half of this year, followed by Baghdad with 179 injuries, including 104 in Karkh, and 75 in Rusafa," noting that "56 injuries were recorded in Wasit Governorate, and 48 injuries in Diyala, While Maysan recorded 54 injuries, and it amounted to 33 in Nineveh, and it was in Holy Karbala 13,” which means that nearly 582 work injuries were recorded during only 6 months of this year in various governorates.
