On Thursday, the Independent High Electoral Commission denied the issuance of a decision to extend the appeal period or the interference of the Presidents of the Republic and the Judicial Council in its work.
The Commission stated in a statement that Mawazine News received a copy of it, that it "is keen on its independence and that the decisions it takes are deliberate and debated by all its members representing all spectrums of Iraqi society, and it is not dictated or influenced by anyone regardless of his position or position in the state. ".
She added: "Here we show that there is no decision from the Commission entitled (extension of the period of appeal) because this period is legal and the Commission or others do not have the authority to extend it, but the Commission allowed the objecting candidates to submit evidence for their appeals submitted within the legal period of 3 days to prove their appeal, so the decision was taken. The Board of Commissioners decided to allow them for a period of three days to present such evidence under the title (Appendix of Appeal), and this is a procedure guaranteed by law, and it cannot be considered in any way to extend the period of appeal, which proves that the number of appeals did not exceed the number announced by the Commission, which is 1436
