The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed today, Friday, that it had not received a request from the Iraqi community in Ukraine to leave.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf said in a statement received by Mawazine News that "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following with great interest the developments of events in Ukraine and their repercussions on the security and safety of the Iraqi community," noting that "the ministry issued a statement on 2/12/2022 urging The Iraqi community expressed its concern about the possibility of leaving the Ukrainian lands as a result of the developments in the scene there, in the interest of their security and safety.
He added, "The Minister of Foreign Affairs made a phone call to the Iraqi Chargé d'Affairs on 2/24/2022 and followed up during the call the situation of the Iraqi community and the cadres working in the embassy and called for possible efforts in light of the current situation to ensure the security and safety of Iraqis," noting that "and under the direction of Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein told the Iraqi charge d'affaires in Ukraine, a number of steps were taken to secure the Iraqi embassy building in Kiev, and in coordination with the authorities there.
Al-Sahaf pointed out that "the Iraqi embassy in Kiev continues its work under exceptional circumstances and has not received a request from the Iraqi community in Ukraine to leave," explaining that "the number of the Iraqi community in Ukraine is (5537) individuals, including (450) students distributed in 37 universities." .
