[rtl]The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, Masrour Barzani, said today, Monday, that he is confident that the region, which has enjoyed a semi-independent administration from Baghdad since 2003, will soon become an important source of energy and will be exported to Turkey .[/rtl]
[rtl]On the sidelines of the World Energy Forum in Dubai, Barzani stressed that he is "confident that the region will soon become an important source of energy, and it will be exported to Turkey in the near future ."[/rtl]
[rtl]He added, according to Turkish TRT TV , that "we can help countries in the region and others in meeting their energy needs and we will do so, and we have the production capacity to make up at least some of the shortfall in Europe ."[/rtl]
[rtl]This is the first time that an Iraqi official has explicitly stated about the possibility of exporting Iraqi gas abroad, despite the presence of many technical obstacles standing in front of this, most notably the infrastructure of gas fields in northern Iraq within the Kurdistan region, or the political and legal aspects related to the absence of an agreed law regarding investment Natural resources in the Kurdistan region of Iraq .[/rtl]
[rtl]This also comes about two weeks after special statements reported by Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, from officials in the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region, in which they confirmed the existence of a movement to revive the gas export project to Turkey from the Khormo gas fields in Erbil and Chamchamal in Sulaymaniyah .[/rtl]
[rtl]The sources, who asked not to be named, explained that the Turks have been very interested in the file for weeks, despite the presence of technical and legal obstacles inside Iraq to complete the agreement .[/rtl]
[rtl]The former political advisor to the Kurdistan Region Presidency Kifah Mahmoud said, in previous statements to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that "trade, economic and investment relations between Ankara and Erbil continue and extend for many years, and there are investments that amounted in some years to 10 billion dollars, and the Turks are a major partner with Erbil." ".[/rtl]
[rtl]He added that "the current understandings with Turkey regarding investment in the energy sectors in general are still continuing ."[/rtl]
[rtl]He stressed that "the new Turkish movement regarding gas is something that Baghdad has nothing to do with, because international investment in Erbil does not intersect with the Iraqi constitution, and there is tireless work to extend a natural gas pipeline from the region to Turkish lands through Dohuk and Zakho," according to him .[/rtl]
