The prominent leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ela Talabani, revealed, on Wednesday, the details of a previous meeting with the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, indicating that Barzani confirmed the right of Erbil to include the Kirkuk oil fields.
In a televised interview, Talabani said, "During his presidency of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechirvan Barzani informed the Kurdish leaders of his endeavor to annex the Kirkuk oil fields to Erbil, as lands belonging to Erbil historically, according to his claim."
And she added, "The file of gas fields and the attempt to invest them will ignite a new crisis with Baghdad that is greater than the issue of selling oil through Kurdistan and will lead to foreign interventions."
She explained that "the scene of agreements related to Kirkuk has become complicated, and that the political agreement and regional influence play the main role in the file of Article 140." Done/ 25 d
