Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Agriculture announced taking measures to protect the producer and the consumer, while identifying an obstacle to the development of the poultry sector, noting that it had allocated an amount of more than 32 billion dinars to purchase local corn to support all poultry breeders.
"The development plan for the poultry sector is to impose customs duties on the importer, who will automatically advance this important sector," said Dr. Abbas Salem, Director of the Livestock Department in the ministry.
He added, "The poultry sector is expanding vertically and horizontally, quickly and strikingly," stressing that "the only factor impeding the work of poultry is price fluctuation."
He pointed out, "Decision 183 on import imposed customs duties on imported products at a rate of 55 percent, in addition to the issuance of a book several days ago calculating all production costs of eggs, meat, chicken and pieces."
He continued, "With the publication of the last book, we will guarantee two points, the first is to protect the product by obtaining a profit margin, and the second point is to protect the consumer by not raising prices in a way that burdens the citizen."
And he stressed, "The recent measures have worked on the fairness of the two parties, which is to protect the product for the sustainability of production and to ensure the employment of manpower, as well as to protect the consumer from rising prices in the local markets."
Regarding the support of breeders, Salem explained, "Amount of approximately 32 billion and a half billion has been provided to support breeders in the private sector, as it was directed to purchase local corn, for the purpose of distributing it at the subsidized price to all poultry breeders."
