The Ministry of Commerce announced the launch of a plan to monitor local markets and items prohibited from import, stressing that periodic reports on prices will be submitted and work to follow up on monopoly operations.
In a statement received by Al-Mada, the ministry stated that “the Ministry of Commerce launched a plan to monitor the local market and the materials prohibited from importing,” while warning against the existence and monopoly of these materials in order to put pressure on the citizens.
Minister Al Ghurairi said during his meeting with the oversight body in the ministry from the commercial and financial control departments and its branches in the governorates and companies, that “the plan will include Baghdad and the governorates to follow up and monitor the local market and prepare detailed reports to the competent authorities for the purpose of taking urgent measures to monitor what is happening in the market.”
Al-Ghurairi added, "The next stage requires more monitoring, follow-up and scrutiny, and the Commercial Control Department will have a pivotal and influential role to follow up on the local market."
He pointed out, "The work of the department needs to change the methods and coordination with the stakeholders to find a solution that prevents inflation or rise in prices and prevent monopoly and work to support the Iraqi citizen through the imprint provided by these supervisory teams through their follow-up to the local market."
Al-Ghurairi stressed, "This stage is the stage of follow-up, auditing and control, whether it is in the local markets or even through the daily business that the ministry's companies play."
He pointed out, "The sergeant bears the historical responsibility to be the point of light in launching the work of this ministry in wider ranges." Al Ghurairi noted, "The ministry will prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to follow up on prices and markets and prevent the monopoly process. The coming period will also witness the process of revitalizing the private sector through the ministry's efforts."
He explained, "This will happen through two parts, the first related to following up on local markets, preventing monopoly and raising the price at the expense of the citizen, and the second by activating the private sector by giving it a natural role to play its role in trade."
Al-Ghurairy pointed out, “The importance of the role of the watchdog in following up and monitoring the market and preparing a database that includes food prices, causes, results and treatments, as well as the evaluation through continuous campaigns for the markets, which will cast a shadow over the services provided by the ministry to the citizen.”
He stressed, "the presence of the supervisory employee in positions of responsibility to audit all work sites, diagnose errors, address violations and identify them in order to correct the paths that occurred in previous times."
Al-Ghurairi went on to “follow up the work of oversight and support its orientations within the framework of auditing and new mechanisms. The next stage will define the features of work in the Ministry of Commerce, help raise the level of performance, and broadcast a message of satisfaction that the citizen can feel in the services provided to him.”
In addition, another statement by the ministry stated, "Al-Ghurairi stressed the need to positively reflect the food basket project on the citizens in general, stressing the need for continuous follow-up by the company's owners for all sites to avoid any defect or failure by the company in terms of processing."
In previous statements, the ministry’s spokesman, Mohamed Hannoun, had stated that “the rise in food prices resulted from a global crisis as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war, as they are among the largest exporting countries.”
He added, "In Iraq, we put the food basket in a line parallel to the line of the rest of the prices to relieve the burdens of citizens, and therefore Cabinet Resolution No. 160 was a qualitative leap for paying attention to the ration card and preparing 7 items for (40) million Iraqi citizens."
He stressed that "the ministry pumped large quantities of foodstuffs through two baskets in parallel with the continuation of the war, and the Ministry of Planning reports that there is a significant decrease in the demand for foodstuffs in commercial markets, and this is a great development because the citizen has become dependent on what he receives of foodstuffs and we follow the prices and treat any Three measures have been taken, which are the legal formulas to deter violators, raise awareness, and also distribute the ration card items.
He added, "Some merchants have monopolized, which caused prices to rise, and we have taken measures against 50 merchants."
Hanoun stressed, "Trade possesses a good stock of local wheat and does not hesitate in distributing flour, and a contract has been made to purchase 150 thousand tons of Australian wheat and another 100 thousand of German wheat. .
On the same level, a statement for trade stated that "the General Company for the manufacture of grains called on citizens to review flour agents to receive their quotas, confirming that they have been supplied with more than (5) million bags."
The statement added, "The process of producing and distributing flour is running smoothly, without interruption." And distribute the seventh quota once it is launched.”
The statement went on to “follow-up the committees of the supervisory and quality branches of the distribution process in most governorates and direct supervision of the processing of agents and citizens to ensure the delivery of good quality flour that conforms to the approved standard specifications.
