On Sunday, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior issued a clarification regarding a statement made by the Baghdad police chief, regarding the registration of many cases of missing children who have not returned to their families.
The spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior, Major General Khaled Al-Muhanna, said, “The Baghdad Police Commander’s statement regarding the missing persons in the capital was misunderstood, as he did not mean that all of them are children only.” They returned to their families, but the other two-thirds of them returned to their families without informing the police.
Al-Muhanna explained that “loss cases are among non-criminal cases, that is, when a person leaves his home, for many reasons that revolve within the framework of family disintegration and family disputes,” stressing that “these numbers are not exaggerated, and come within a context he is used to for such cases.”
And the Baghdad police chief, Adnan Hammoud al-Salami, had reported yesterday, Saturday, that 450 missing children had been registered during the first ten months of this year, while indicating the existence of human trafficking crimes, the arrest of the perpetrators, and the prosecution of the rest.
