    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the government’s intention to support the local product, activate the law to protect it, and limit dumping of the market with imported materials, while it revealed proposals to set a customs tariff on imported materials.
Hamid al-Nayef, a spokesman for agriculture, said, "There are previous decisions that were taken, including opening the door to imports, and they affected the local product and the productivity of peasants and farmers."
Al-Nayef added that “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani has a tendency to protect the local product by activating the local product protection law, which limits the process of dumping the market,” noting that “there is a plan for the Ministry of Agriculture with the Council of Ministers to reconsider all previous measures.” To protect the local product and reduce prices, because one of the ministry’s tasks is to protect the local product on the one hand and protect the consumer on the other hand.
He stressed "the necessity of reviewing and reconsidering all previous decisions in a way that leads to achieving a reasonable price balance for the farmer as well as the citizen, with the need to go to manufacturing industries, protect the local product and expand agriculture in order to be able to reduce prices and generate manufacturing industries such as paste, dates and other products."
He pointed out that “there are requests by the Minister of Agriculture to restore the agricultural calendar and set the customs tariff that is close to approval, which leads to making the price of the importer and the local product close to some extent, and thus the farmer’s work flourishes and he is able to cultivate and the local product flourishes and then reach coverage of local production.” and consumer.”
The House of Representatives had postponed the vote on extending the decision to exempt imported food commodities from the customs tariff, which was approved at the time of the Al-Kazemi government, which caused a threat to the local product and the introduction of food commodities at cheaper prices than local products.
