Today, Thursday, the rapporteur of the Iraqi parliament, Gharib Askar, revealed the start date for the sessions of the new legislative term of the parliament.
Askar told (Baghdad Today), "The House of Representatives ended its legislative recess a few days ago, and the deputies began working in parliamentary committees for legislative and oversight performance, but until this moment the Presidency of the House of Representatives has not set any date for the resumption of parliamentary sessions."
He added, "We believe that the start of the sessions of the new legislative term for the House of Representatives will be the beginning of next week, especially since the parliament is working on enacting many important laws, most notably the budget law for the year 2023, as it is still awaiting its arrival in order to legislate it as soon as possible due to its great importance."
It is noteworthy that the popular and political attention is still awaiting the completion of the draft financial budget for the year 2023, after its absence in 2022 due to the political crisis, as the Iraqis pin hopes on it to restore the spirit to service projects, revive the private sector, and run "important" matters.
On Thursday (8/12/2022), the House of Representatives began its legislative recess, which has passed for 28 days so far, provided that it will resume its sessions on Monday (9 January), but it has not been held yet.
