The Ministry of Commerce announced, on Sunday, its intention to open large cooperative societies to support the poor and maintain prices.
The ministry said in a statement, which Mawazine News received a copy of, that "Minister of Commerce Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairy announced today, the imminent opening of large cooperative societies in Baghdad and the provinces on the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan."
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, Muhammad Hanoun, said, quoting Al-Ghariri, according to the statement, that "large cooperative societies will be opened in the Karkh and Rusafa sides in Baghdad and the rest of the provinces, in which all foodstuffs, including red meat, chicken and cheese, will be sold at subsidized prices and at cost."
And he stressed, "The opening of these associations aims to support the Iraqi citizen and the poor groups and to maintain prices in the local markets on the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan and the Prime Minister's directives to provide all foodstuffs to citizens."
He pointed out that "the Ministry of Commerce had launched a major campaign to drive trucks loaded with flour, milk, table eggs and chicken to the ministry's outlets to sell them to citizens at subsidized prices." Ended 29 / H
