    Follow-up - Mawazine News
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said, on Tuesday, that the goal of his visit to Baghdad is to "reaffirm the strategic partnership between the United States and Iraq."

It is noteworthy that Austin arrived, earlier today, Tuesday, in Baghdad on an unannounced visit.

"What (the Iraqis) will hear from him is a commitment to maintain the presence of our forces, but it is not just about the military tool," the Reuters news agency quoted a senior US military official as saying.

"The United States is widely interested in a strategic partnership with the Government of Iraq," the official added. Ended 29/N33

    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Tuesday, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed the readiness of US forces to stay in Iraq if the Iraqi government so desires.
Austin said during a press conference held at Baghdad International Airport and followed by (Baghdad Today), that "the coalition worked with the Iraqi government to eliminate the state organization," noting that "military action alone will not guarantee the final elimination of the state organization."
Austin stressed that "the American forces are ready to stay in Iraq according to the desire of the Iraqi government."
He added, "We are committed to eliminating the Islamic State, and this is our only goal for our stay in Iraq."
This morning, an informed source revealed the objectives of US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin's visit to the capital, Baghdad, while pointing out that the file of border crossings and Jurf al-Sakhar are among the most prominent.
The source told (Baghdad Today) that "Austin's visit to Baghdad comes to discuss the issue of targeting American interests in Iraq and the bases of the international coalition, as well as the file of Jurf al-Sakhar, the Samawah desert, and the unofficial crossings linking Iraq with Iran and Syria."
Earlier, Reuters revealed the arrival of US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to Baghdad, with a visit it said was "unannounced" and aimed at informing the Iraqi authorities of Washington's position on the twentieth anniversary of the US invasion in 2003.
The agency said in a report translated by (Baghdad Today), that an American official, on condition of anonymity, confirmed that "the aim of Austin's visit to Baghdad is to inform the Iraqi authorities that she is staying in Iraq," noting that "this is what the Iraqis will hear from him."
And he added, "The US secretary will inform the government in Baghdad that Washington is not only interested in the military aspect, but it greatly desires to establish a full strategic partnership with the Iraqi government," as he put it.
