Today, Sunday, the American network (The Media Line) revealed "pressures" exerted by the US administration on the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani, to implement what Washington sees as a "plan" to combat corruption in several stages.
Informed internal sources told the network, which it included in a report, translated by (Baghdad Today), that "Al-Sudani has begun to implement measures aimed at (taking the battle to the arena of corruption) through new steps, under constant pressure from the US government."
The report added, "The first steps are the transition to digital currency, which the Sudanese government has now initiated by dealing in gas stations with electronic cards, and improving the structure of electronic state institutions with the aim of transferring official transactions and dealings from direct to the Internet, to combat rampant corruption in state institutions." .
He continued, "There are also steps to combat corruption in the field of investment, including canceling the authorization to establish contracts between institutions and companies directly and limiting those powers to a special council for investors and bidders."
In any case, these measures were described by the report, quoting (experts) as "will not lead to an actual fight against corruption spreading in the country," stressing that despite the "new procedures," "many of those accused of corruption were previously referred to the judiciary," but So far, "no judgments have been issued against them except for a few who do not have political influence represented by parliamentary seats or strong political parties."
The report, quoting a high-ranking source within the Iraqi government, confirmed that "the truth is, everyone is corrupt, and if one of them is tried, the rest will fall successively like domino pieces towards the judiciary, and their corruption files will be fully revealed," noting that "this is difficult to verify given the current conditions and the reluctance of the Sudanese About (harming them, especially those belonging to the major Shiite parties), as he described it.
The report also talked about (an American plan) to combat corruption in Iraq, saying that "its first phase has now begun to be implemented by focusing on the Central Bank of Iraq and currency smuggling, and its second phase will be (government projects)."
The report stated, "Al-Sudani is not the first Iraqi prime minister to talk about combating corruption," noting that "those who preceded him also made promises to eliminate corruption in Iraq, only to end up maximizing their bank account numbers to reach billions of dollars," citing the names of Iraqi politicians who held the position of prime minister. She said they are accused of corruption, according to local media.
Specialists' pessimism about Al-Sudani's ability to implement US reforms and its plan to combat corruption was answered by the linked source close to him, who assured the network that "Al-Sudani has a broader plan than the one that the United States is trying to focus on within the current stages," explaining that "part of Al-Sudani's plan is Urgent action against alien employees, especially in the popular crowd apparatus, who will soon be fully exposed.
And he continued, "There is also a plan to merge the crowd with the security forces, but it will not be implemented now. Rather, the names and salaries must be verified and the numbers of those belonging to the apparatus must be verified before the integration process begins," and stressed that "the procedures will include employees and workers with officials," stressing that "Iraq has Now hundreds of thousands of aliens are even among the ranks of advisers, guards and other government jobs."
These procedures, according to the source, include "revealing the identities and names of those belonging to the factions affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Brigade, to officially register them and make sure that they are real and not part of the aliens' names."
In a direct response to the news about targeting the Hashd Foundation with an anti-corruption campaign, the network reported statements by a leader in Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, which I presented as “Hajj al-Suwaidi,” during which he affirmed that the Popular Mobilization Foundation is “sacred and there are no corruption operations within it,” continuing, “Corruption exists in the Ministry of Education , work, ages, etc., not within the crowd."
The official also continued, "The crowd will not be affected, and we completely reject any process of merging with the official forces. We have played a role in combating the terrorist organization ISIS, which the Iraqi army could not play against the organization," explaining, "It is not possible to reduce the crowd's budget, or to reconsider its members." And others, we will keep the identity of our fighters secret," before he finished by saying, "Let them go and fight corruption away from Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq. We will not allow this sacred power to be compromised," as he described it.
The statements of the official in Al-Asa’ib were followed by others issued by Abu Ali Al-Askari, an official in Kata’ib Hezbollah, to Al-Shabaka, during which he affirmed, “No one can touch the resistance, and if he did, our blood for that is cheap.” As he described it, the officials’ statements were described by the network as leading to “doubts.” In Sudani's ability to fulfill his promises and respond to increasing American pressure.
Journalists and researchers in Iraqi political affairs confirmed to the network that Al-Sudani "will not succeed in eliminating corruption," especially in state institutions that are controlled by influential political and armed parties and parties, stressing that "the alien file has existed for years and the government is fully aware of its details and unable to combat it." , according to its description.
The obstacles to combating corruption that al-Sudani faces and is expected to lead to his failure despite the great American pressure, according to the network, do not stop at the armed factions or the politically influential parties, but rather extend to other parties, as it indicated, quoting an official of the Sunni Endowment Bureau, that many officials About the care and management of mosques and places of worship, they were exposed to corruption, explaining, "The former head of the Sunni Endowment Diwan, Saad Kambesh, was arrested last August on charges of corruption that the government learned about for many years," he said, continuing, "The new president who took over works with the same authorities." In the same way, he stole hundreds of millions of waqf funds,” he said, declaring that corruption did not stop at the arrest of the corrupt official, but rather extended to his replacement.
The report concluded with certainty, quoting Iraqi officials, that American pressure and Sudanese efforts to combat corruption will often not lead to a result, given the transformation of corruption from a rampant scourge within the Iraqi authority to "part of the ruling political system in the country," as she put it.
