Shafaq News/ The Labor and Social Affairs Parliamentary Committee revealed, on Wednesday, the inclusion of an article in the Social Security Law that obliges local and foreign private sector companies to hire Iraqi workers and fine them if they do not comply.

Committee member Nour Nafeh told Shafaq News agency, "The Labor and Social Affairs Committee is making many amendments to the Social Security Law, most notably guaranteeing the rights of workers in private companies and private laboratories. As for the rest of the paragraphs of the law, they are still being worked on and amended in the committee's corridors."
She added that "activating social security in companies is the duty of the government, not Parliament, given that the law exists on the ground but is not activated," noting that "the Labor and Social Affairs Committee in Parliament has put a paragraph in the Social Security Law that obliges the government to activate security in companies and factories." All, and in the event that the company does not respond, it bears legal and administrative responsibility in addition to a financial fine.
And Nafeh continued, "There is a paragraph in the Social Security Law that stipulates a reduction in foreign labor by imposing an increase in high financial fines on foreign and local companies in order to employ and benefit from the Iraqi labor force."
Bennet Nafie said, "The Labor and Social Affairs Committee has reached the stage of finalizing the amendments, and after completing the discussion of the Social Security Law, the committee will present the amended draft law to the Presidency of Parliament and present the law for voting in the coming sessions."
