Today, Saturday, the Finance Committee confirmed its intention to discuss 3 main points related to the 2023 budget with government officials, while clarifying its options regarding reducing the deficit of 64 trillion dinars.
Committee member Jamal Cougar said in a televised interview, followed by Mawazine News: “The Finance Committee aspires, through its hosting of a number of officials and ministers, to achieve 3 basic points. The third point is the need to seek justice between ministries, governorates and sectors.
He added, "The committee will continue its meetings with officials until conviction and full knowledge of all paragraphs of the budget are reached," noting, "Reducing the deficit must be a choice in it from one of the two budgets, either operational or investment."
He continued, "The Finance Committee is convinced that the investment budget will remain as it is without any reduction, and we will do our best to achieve that," noting, "Some ministries can schedule some of their needs and transfer them to the next budgets."
He pointed out, "Oil prices will be in the global markets between 80 to 85 dollars, and there is no fear of a decrease," pointing out, "Some ministries have spent only 10% of the allocations for the Emergency Support Law until this month of April."
And he continued, "What remains of the budget for the current world will be recycled for the coming years and will contribute to reducing the expected deficit."
Regarding the date for voting on the budget, Cougar confirmed that "there is still no specific date for passing the budget," noting that "the committee needs about 15 days to finish hosting the officials, and after that it needs 5 to 10 days to discuss the outputs of the hosting."
