Shafaq News/ The Iraq Green Observatory, which specializes in the environment, warned, on Wednesday, of a crisis in the provision of drinking water affecting all Iraqi governorates, if effective solutions are not developed as soon as possible.

Observatory member Omar Abdel Latif told Shafaq News agency, "The agricultural lands are the most affected by the water crisis, so most of these lands dried up and went out of service, and the farmer began to leave the land."

He added, "The suffering of the residents of the marshes and some southern regions in Dhi Qar, Basra, Maysan, and Muthanna from the lack of drinking water has begun to spread to Anbar Governorate and elsewhere, and in the absence of solutions, Iraq may suffer from north to south from the crisis of providing drinking water."

He stressed that "the problem is the lack of a real negotiator to fully take Iraq's water rights, and the statements of the Minister of Water Resources that Iraq is going through the worst drought crisis for the fourth year in a row, matched by the lack of any significant solutions."

Abdel Latif added, "Although the minister wanted to reassure the citizens that there are positive signs from Turkey to increase water releases, this did not happen, as the latter also suffers from a water crisis."

He explained that "Turkey asked the Iraqi side to use new methods of irrigation, but there was persistence in the hope that there would be more rain and the release of larger quantities of water, which did not happen. aquatic".

Abdul Latif added, "Iraq witnessed more rainfall this year compared to previous years, but the Ministry of Water Resources did not benefit from it, which requires finding effective solutions to solve the water crisis as soon as possible."
