    Today, Thursday (August 10, 2023), Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani confirmed that Iraq will dispense with imported gas within a period not exceeding 3 years.
    And the media office of Al-Sudani stated in a statement received by “Baghdad Today”, that “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ Al-Sudani opened two installed units at the Amarah gas power station in Maysan Governorate, which he arrived this morning, Thursday,” noting that “Al-Sudani blessed the efforts of the staff working in the Ministry of Electricity.” And the executing company to complete this project, which will supply the system with a new capacity of 250 megawatts.
    The Prime Minister confirmed, during the inauguration of the two complex units, that "these strategic projects will contribute to reducing the expenditure of the operational budget, especially with regard to importing gas, and they are among the projects that have been ongoing since 2019, and come within the government's direction to complete the stalled and lagging projects."
    He pointed out that "the direction of the government and the Ministry of Electricity, during the last stage, focused on the implementation of combined cycle projects, and the first phase was signed to produce approximately 1140 megawatts of electrical energy, and it is hoped that the second phase of combined cycle projects will be signed, until the total energy reaches 4,000 megawatts will be used without the need for additional fuel.
    Al-Sudani continued, "The government is continuing on more than one level to improve the reality of the electricity system," stressing that "all the problems and crises that the electricity system was exposed to are outside the control of the ministry, due to the problem of importing gas, which the government addressed through decisions taken for the first time, as the issue was resolved." Paying dues by bartering crude and black oil with neighboring Iran, which supplies Iranian gas to operate the stations.
    The Prime Minister pointed to "future and permanent solutions to invest in gas that is burned and not invested, through a Total contract or the fifth round or contracts that it is hoped will be signed soon, and Iraq will be facing an important maturity, which is the absence of the need for imported gas within a period not exceeding 3 years if it is completed." These projects, which will also provide energy independence and dependence on Iraqi gas.
    Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, arrived in Maysan Governorate to see the service situation there and the opening of a number of projects.
    Al-Sudani's media office said, in a statement received by "Baghdad Today," that "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani arrived today in Maysan Governorate to see the service situation, inaugurate a number of important projects in the governorate, and announce new projects."
    Yesterday, Wednesday (August 9, 2023), the Minister of Health, Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, visited Maysan Governorate to follow up on the health situation and see the percentage of completion of health projects in the governorate.
