    Economy News - Baghdad
The District Commissioner of Al-Rutba District in Al-Anbar Governorate announced the completion of the electrical connection work with Jordan, stressing that supplying the district with energy (40 megawatts) will come into force at the end of this August.
The mayor of Rutba, Imad Mishaal al-Dulaimi, said, "The Iraqi side is technically ready to receive the amount of electrical energy supplied from Jordan, after installing all the 132 stations and the 33 station and wiring the entire line to the secondary Rutba station."
Al-Dulaimi indicated that the electrical connection will be a first stage in the Rutba district, with a capacity of 40 megawatts, provided that the remaining stages of the project will be completed and connected to the national grid, through station 400 in the city of Al-Qaim, northwest of Anbar.
Iraq and Jordan laid the foundation stone for the electrical interconnection project between the two countries in 2022, which aims in its first phase to supply Iraq with 150 megawatts, to rise to 500 megawatts in the second phase, and 900 megawatts in the third phase.
Iraq produces between 24 thousand megawatts of electrical energy, while the actual need is about 37 thousand, which leads to frequent power outages, especially during the summer, which witnesses a large rise in temperatures in Iraq.
Baghdad is seeking to diversify the sources of importing electricity, after it relied on Iran alone during the past years through the import of electric energy, in addition to gas fuel to feed the local electric power stations.
