The Ministry of Agriculture reported that it will provide the country’s farmers with 40,000 sprinklers during the next five years, as part of the programs to expand regulated irrigation, announcing the launch of compensation for those affected by the Shalabm farmers in the Najaf and Diwaniyah governorates, amounting to 136 billion dinars.
Minister Abbas Jabr Al-Maliki told Al-Sabah, on the sidelines of his attendance at the distribution of the first meal of compensation among the farmers of Najaf, which took place at the headquarters of the governorate’s Agriculture Directorate building yesterday: The first meal of compensation is among those who were deprived of the cultivation of cardamom, while the directorate will distribute it among the rest. Among them are through the agricultural divisions in the districts and districts of the governorate.
He stated that all compensations for the governorates of Najaf, Diwaniyah and Muthanna have been released, amounting to about 136 billion dinars, of which Najaf’s share is 47 billion and 670 million dinars, announcing the ministry’s current efforts to release compensation amounts for fish breeders and those affected by floods and torrents, which exceed 225 billion dinars.
As for the Ministry’s official spokesman, Muhammad Al-Khuza’i, he explained to “Al-Sabah” that the winter season plan includes planting eight million and 400 thousand dunums of wheat, including four million dunums of desert land that depends on groundwater, and which uses fixed and pivotal sprinklers, noting that the ministry may add One million dunams or more for tourist irrigation lands, if the winter season rains are heavy.
He stressed that the Ministry of Agriculture is currently working to provide 40,000 different sprinklers over the next five years, by contracting with the Ministry of Industry and a Dutch company, in addition to other companies, pointing out that the Ministry supports prepared seeds for farmers by 70 percent, while there will be greater support for lands dependent on roads. Modern irrigation, to encourage farmers to rationalize water consumption.
