The Integrity Commission announced the implementation of an arrest warrants against the President of the General Federation of Trade Unions and his arrest pending investigation, in addition to two members of the Executive Office of the Federation, on charges of causing harm to the funds and interests of the entity in which he works and is connected to by virtue of his job.
The department explained in a press statement, “An arrest warrant was executed against the convicted president of the General Federation of Trade Unions in Iraq and two members of the union’s executive office, for committing violations, bargaining, and bribes in the contract for the purchase and furnishing of the union building in Diyala,” noting that the president of the union himself was handed over. He was presented to the competent judge, who decided to detain him pending investigation.”
The department added, “The details of the case are that the price of purchasing and furnishing the Union Building in Diyala was fixed in the purchase contract at the amount of (2,407,000,000) two billion dinars, while the real purchase value amounted to (235,000,000) only one million dinars,” noting that “the arrest warrant was executed based on a memorandum.” A judicial ruling issued by a judge of the Baqubah Investigative Court, which has jurisdiction to consider integrity cases, based on the provisions of Article (340) of the Penal Code.
It is worth noting that the Commission announced early last September that it had uncovered the embezzlement of more than two billion dinars, after manipulating the estimate of the value of the property, which was purchased by the Federation of Trade Unions in Diyala.[/rtl]
