    Today, Friday (November 24, 2023), the Parliamentary Electricity and Energy Committee commented on Iraq’s deposit of its instrument of accession to the Nuclear Safety Agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
    Committee member Kamel Al-Ugaili told Baghdad Al-Youm, “Iraq’s participation within the country participating in the Nuclear Safety Agreement is very important, especially as this means that Iraq will be the subject of international attention and will be among the countries that are protected from disasters.” 
    He pointed out that "this also confirms that Iraq does not want to use anything related to nuclear for non-peaceful issues," noting that "Iraq needs to enter into many international agreements related to nuclear, renewable, clean and other energy, especially since Iraq is witnessing development and interest in these areas and there is a real intention." To develop these sectors in the future.”
    On 11/21/2023, the Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency, His Excellency Bakr Fattah Hussein, had deposited the instrument of accession of the Republic of Iraq to the Nuclear Safety Convention, and the Joint Agreement on the Safe Management of Spent Fuel and the Safe Management of Radioactive Waste, with the Director General of the Agency, Rafael Grossi, in his capacity Depositary of the two agreements mentioned above.
    Grossi welcomed the Republic of Iraq’s deposit of the instruments of accession to the two aforementioned agreements, saying, “It is an important step towards a new democratic Iraq, and I look forward to Iraq’s return to its normal position that we have known in the international arena.”
