On Monday, the General Directorate of Railways of the Ministry of Transport revealed the completion of about 1,000 kilometers of soil investigations for the development road, while noting that more than 18 countries will participate in the project.
Railways Director Younis Al-Kaabi said, in a statement reported by the official news agency and seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “preparation for the development road is proceeding according to the specified timings and according to a timetable,” indicating that “soil investigation committees have completed about 1,000 kilometers, and the remainder are minefields.” In addition to a section that requires approvals because it is located within the borders of the Kurdistan region.
He explained, "Preliminary designs of approximately 600 kilometers have been prepared," noting that "technical sessions were held with the Ministries of Oil, Electricity, Water Resources, Tourism, and Antiquities, in order to resolve the issue of conflicts and find solutions regarding them."
He added, "The next stage will witness the start of detailed designs, and it is expected that the project will be referred to international companies in the middle of next year."
He pointed out that "about 18 Arab countries, the European Union and Asian countries have a desire to participate in the path of development, through consultation, implementation or investment."
