Early next week, the Ministry of Health will launch special campaigns to monitor drug pricing in the private sector in order to control the pharmaceutical market.
Minister Saleh Al-Hasnawi told Al-Sabah: The Ministry intends to carry out campaigns on the private sector to find out what medicines are available within the information and data of the pharmaceutical system, and to match the labels affixed to medicine boxes.
He added that the campaigns contribute to knowing the entry of medicines officially or unofficially, as well as monitoring non-compliance with drug pricing, and helping citizens by matching the prices of medicines fixed on their boxes with the prices that are read through the scanner within the “Codia” application.
Al-Hasnawi confirmed that the campaigns will be launched during the next week through inspection teams consisting of trained pharmacists and a representative of the Pharmacists Syndicate, within the Karkh and Rusafa health departments in Baghdad, and then they will be implemented later in all governorates.
He pointed out the adoption of computers that carry data on citizens’ complaints about the preparation and distribute them among inspectors to ensure the safety of the available medicine, its side effects, its effect, and any strange observations related to any drug. In the event of their presence, measures will be taken by the Department of Technical Affairs related to the supplied medicine and prevent its dispensing as a precautionary measure until Ensuring its safety, as well as ensuring rapid response to any problems related to any drug, to ensure the development of the health care system and attention to the health of citizens.
The Minister of Health pointed out that popular medical clinics will be equipped with 14 tablet computers that will be distributed among inspectors out of a total of 132 computers for the purpose of following up on medicines circulated in the private sector, including scientific offices, stores and pharmacies, indicating that the tablet includes information included in the national drug system related to companies supplying Iraq and scientific offices. And locally manufactured medicines, as well as those that have passed the examination, are permitted to be dispensed or are prohibited.
