    Baghdad today - Baghdad
A group of Christian churches in Iraq announced today, Monday (December 11, 2023), the cancellation of New Year’s and Holy Christmas celebrations for this year, indicating their “concern” that the Iraqi authorities “do not take their need for safety seriously.”
The Open Door Christian Organization said, according to what Baghdad Today translated, that church leaders, at the invitation of Patriarch Cardinal Louis Sako, met in the Ainkawa Monastery in Erbil and decided to cancel this year’s celebrations out of respect for the victims of the wedding hall fire in Qaraqosh and the victims in Gaza.
The organization also confirmed that the attendees expressed their “concern” about what they described as “the Iraqi government’s neglect of the Christians’ need for safety in Iraq,” stressing that “the government has not taken serious measures to preserve the rights of Christians,” referring to the President of the Republic’s withdrawal of the Republican Decree issued by Cardinal Sako in his capacity. Chaldean Patriarch in Iraq and the world.
