Today, Thursday (December 28, 2023), Member of the House of Representatives, Ali Nima Al-Bandawi, set the date for voting on choosing the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Al-Bandawi said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the political forces agreed to speed up the resolution of the vote on choosing a candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives,” pointing out that “the list of candidates proposed ranges from 4-5 names so far, and opinions differ regarding supporting any of them.” Names,” adding, “But in the end there is a desire to expedite the end of this file.”
The member of the House of Representatives added, "Voting on a candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives will take place after mid-January through an official session," noting that "the inputs from the results of the local elections will have an impact."
Al-Bandawi pointed out, “It is not possible to determine who the most supportive candidate is at the present time, pointing out that after January 15, this file will definitely be resolved and will not be postponed according to our estimates.”
The Federal Court decided, in mid-November, to terminate the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi.
According to a statement by the court published on its official website, the decision was taken based on a lawsuit against Al-Halbousi this year, while Al-Halbousi described the court’s decision as “strange” and said that he would seek clarification about it.
