The Ministry of Electricity confirmed, on Saturday, that the smart transformation project for the electrical network will begin at the beginning of the new year 2024 and includes features including 24-hour operation.
Ministry spokesman Ahmed Musa said, in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “following the directives of the government and the Prime Minister on the necessity of smart transformation of the electrical network and working as is done globally, the Ministry of Electricity reviewed the experiences of neighboring countries and the Kurdistan region in transformation.” Smart in the electrical network, and the models, specifications and possibility of transformation were studied in a first phase in ten regions.”
Moussa added, “The smart transformation in the network will require installing smart meters, rehabilitating distribution networks, reducing losses, and maximizing collection resources,” noting that “the smart transformation in the electrical network will achieve important points, as it targets high loads and will not target the simple citizen and is concerned with reducing consumption.”
He explained that the project "will provide 24-hour electricity supply in the areas where it will be worked, in addition to 24-hour service. There will be no disruption, and there will be no increase in tariffs and prices, and it will be in the interest of citizens. The transformation will be responsible for controlling loads and providing an integrated supply service." .
Moussa pointed out that “it will be a point for installing smart meters and linking them to a system that will enable the citizen to avoid interrupted reading, discretionary reading, and the appearance of debts again on the lists,” stressing that “all of the above will be achieved by the smart transformation project.”
He pointed out that "the Ministry chose 10 regions, 4 of which are in Baghdad and 6 in the governorates," stressing that "at the beginning of next year 2024, those regions will be specifically announced, and the implementation of the next phase will begin."
