Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: For a long time, those ruling hands in Karbala, represented by Governor Nassif Al-Khattabi, were wearing the mask of just rule, but the bitter truth is that they were hiding behind walls of silence and neglect when people were surprised that the electoral process had been transformed by the governor of Karbala. To a financial offer, and marketing electoral rights at unbelievable prices.
The exposure of Karbala Governor Nassif Al-Khattabi about the suspicious distribution of funds to buy voters’ votes caused widespread uproar, as field testimonies circulated among residents revealed that projects were granted in an exceptional manner to tribal fronts and influential figures, with clear attempts to buy seats in the provincial council.
This scandal highlights that fair governance and optimal democracy are tinged with financial temptation, after Al-Khatabi’s practices of power have turned into a market for votes and seats.
Personal and tribal interests were embodied as tools in the hands of al-Khattabi, to buy souls and tighten control over the political decision, destroying confidence in the integrity of the electoral process and the integrity of officials.
This exposure embodies the urgent call for the need to reform the situation in Karbala and hold accountable Al-Khattabi’s inner circle who abuse their powers for personal purposes and narrow interests, demanding the achievement of justice and integrity and the provision of a legislative and political environment that protects the rights of voters and enhances their effective participation in shaping their political future.
Political finances and influence have become clear since the process of selecting candidates in Karbala, as temptations were offered to influential figures in society to run with Al-Khattabi’s list, and they were promised certain positions if they did not win the elections.
This prompted political entities and blocs to file a set of complaints supported by evidence and documents against four members of the Karbala Creativity Bloc, including Governor Nassif Al-Khattabi, due to the exploitation of office and public money during election campaigns.
According to the complaints, the defendants used their government positions and public funds to finance their election campaigns, make false promises to voters, buy votes, and exploit state resources, including money and security services, for the benefit of their election campaigns.
The lawsuits represent an important development in the electoral process in Iraq, as they emphasize the need to hold those involved in electoral corruption accountable.
It is likely that this legal movement against electoral corruption will lead to changing the map of the winning bloc in Karbala Governorate, as the defendants represent a large percentage of the bloc.
It seems that the political arena in Karbala is experiencing a new shock, with the emergence of these complaints supported by evidence and documents against prominent political parties in Karbala, confirming that they committed violations and exploited public positions and funds during their electoral campaigns.
These complaints will change the dynamics within the winning blocs.
In a remarkable move, the candidate for the Iraqi Alliance coalition in Karbala Governorate, Muhammad al-Araji, organized a protest along with dozens of protesters in order to denounce the theft of voters’ votes during the electoral process.
Karbalaites confirmed that they had monitored the buying of votes at about 300,000 dinars per vote, while a political observer estimated the money spent by Nassif Al-Khattabi, the governor of Karbala, at about 80 billion dinars.
Al-Khattabi referred most of the reconstruction projects to contractors representing social entities that pledged to the governors to secure the necessary votes.
A political analyst who preferred to remain anonymous described what happened as corrupt deals under the dangerous dictatorship of Al-Khattabi, where he manipulates the budget and the fate of people without monitoring.
