Parliament intends to hold an extraordinary session against the backdrop of the American strikes

The Presidency of the House of Representatives intends to hold an extraordinary (emergency) session in the coming days, to determine the recurrence of American attacks on the country, and to put an end to the international coalition forces’ violations of the sovereignty and lives of Iraqis.
The Presidency of the House of Representatives, according to a statement provided by the House’s media office yesterday, expressed its “strong denunciation of the American aggression against Iraqi security sites in the Akashat and Al-Qaim regions, and neighboring civilian areas, which led to the deaths of 16 martyrs and 25 wounded, including civilians.”
The Presidency confirmed that “the House of Representatives is determined to hold an extraordinary (emergency) session in the coming days, to determine the recurrence of the American attacks on the country, and to put an end to the violations of the sovereignty and lives of Iraqis by the international coalition forces,” indicating that “the recurrence of the American attacks on Iraqi security headquarters is a great disdain and cannot be ignored.” It can be accepted,” according to the statement.
While the Presidency renewed its call to the government for “the necessity of accelerating the implementation of Legislative Resolution No. 18 of 2020, issued by the House of Representatives, which includes the removal of international coalition forces from the country, because there is no longer a need for them to remain and because they are now threatening the security, stability, and sovereignty of Iraq.”
She stressed that “the aforementioned decision represents a national and popular will, and that its implementation is an urgent necessity to preserve the sovereignty of the country and the lives of citizens.”
In response to the killing of 3 of its soldiers in an attack on a base in Jordan, the United States launched strikes on Friday/Saturday night against 85 targets of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its “affiliated groups” in Iraq and Syria, according to what the US Central Command announced.
While the response to previous attacks on American interests was limited, this time it will continue for days, according to what former spokesman for the US Central Command, Joe Bugino, told the Rudaw media network.
American forces and international coalition forces in Iraq and Syria have been subjected to more than 165 attacks since mid-October, many of which were claimed by the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq,” but the attack on a base in Jordan was the first to result in deaths among American forces.
The military spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, said in a statement that the American air strikes will have dire consequences for Iraq and the region.
While the Iraqi government announced “16 martyrs, including civilians, in addition to 25 wounded, it also caused losses and damage to residential buildings and citizens’ property” as a result of the “blatant aggression” carried out by the American administration against Iraq’s sovereignty.
She pointed out that the American side then deliberately “deceived and falsified the facts, by announcing prior coordination to commit this aggression” after US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby announced that the United States had informed the Iraqi government before carrying out the strikes.
Yesterday morning, Saturday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its intention to summon the American Chargé d'Affairs in Baghdad, and handed him a protest note regarding “the attack that targeted military and civilian sites.”
