The Agriculture, Water and Marshlands Committee in the House of Representatives called for the suspension of trade relations with Turkey due to the presence of 90 incursion points into Iraq and 4 military bases, one of which is in Nineveh, in addition to its lack of response to Baghdad regarding the water file.
The head of the committee, Faleh Al-Khazali, told the “official newspaper”, followed by Mawazine News: “The committee, despite its support for the negotiation file, the Turkish side is not responding or cooperating in the water file and increasing releases to Iraq, which prompted it to demand the suspension of the trade relationship with Turkey due to the presence of 90 points.” An incursion into Iraq and 4 military bases, one of which is in Nineveh.”
He stated that "the volume of trade exchange in favor of Turkey amounts to 24 billion dollars, in addition to 600 investment companies operating within it, indicating that despite all of this, Ankara did not give Iraq what it deserves in this file, noting the achievement of achieving the launch of the Karun River."
Al-Khazali pointed out that “the committee moved towards the lagging projects related to agriculture and water resources in the budget in coordination between the legislative and executive authorities, as it allocated funds for 76 projects that have been stalled since 2011 that would address the problems of water resources, in addition to equipping the Ministry of Agriculture with approximately 500 sprinklers and setting allocations.” To contract for 10,000 sprinklers to reduce water waste.
He explained, "The committee is working to prepare the Supreme Water Council law for the first reading after it was suspended throughout the previous sessions, in addition to important steps to support livestock, palm trees, and the cultivation of desert areas, such as the project to plant more than a million palm trees in the Samawah Desert, which provided opportunities for 3,000 workers and 150 agricultural engineers."
