    The Presidency of the Republic said in a statement received by Al-Sumaria News, that Rashid received today, Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Iraq, Elena Romanski, stressing the keenness to continue building strong relations that serve mutual interests, respect national sovereignty, and enhance joint cooperation in various fields.     He pointed out, "Iraq's determination to continue the reform approach, eliminate cases of corruption, and build distinguished partnerships that contribute to achieving comprehensive development and economic growth, stressing the importance of benefiting from expertise and experiences and employing them to gain skills and improve the reality of the economic, commercial, agricultural, environmental, and energy sectors."

    He also confirmed that "the Presidency of the Republic adopted the release of detainees whose sentences had expired and the formation of a committee that included, in addition to the Presidency of the Republic, the Supreme Judicial Council, the Ministries of Justice and Interior, and the National Security Advisory, which is responsible for following up on the files of the convicts and the expiration dates of their sentences, to ensure their release on the specified dates."

    He stressed the importance of "finding solutions to the outstanding issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region in accordance with the Constitution, the law, and political understandings," indicating "the desire of both sides to continue the dialogue to resolve the issue of the budget and pay the dues of Kurdistan Region employees on the same basis as their fellow employees."

    For her part, the American Ambassador affirmed her country's "desire to develop relations between the two countries and enhance cooperation in a way that serves the two friendly peoples. The situation was also reviewed at the regional and international levels, and the emphasis was placed on supporting opportunities for peace, security and stability in the region," according to the statement.

    International and human rights reports have confirmed that convicts in Iraq are not released in some prisons after the end of their sentence, and are turned into a source of financial gain by some of the employees responsible for their release, who blackmail their families to obtain money before their release despite the end of their sentence.
