The National Investment Authority revealed, on Tuesday, that 4 international companies had submitted applications to implement the Baghdad Metro and Najaf-Karbala train projects.
The head of the National Investment Authority, Haider Makiya, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by Al-Eqtisad News, that “the Baghdad metro project was announced as an investment opportunity last February, and the announcement was extended to the eleventh of April 2024, as three international companies applied for it.” Investment in the Baghdad metro project so far and one company for the Najaf-Karbala metro project.”
He added, "After the end of the time specified for the applicant companies, confidence will be granted to the winning companies," noting that "these companies will be responsible for design, construction, operation, maintenance, and financing."
Regarding the development road project, Makiya confirmed that “meetings will continue on the project until the final design of the road is completed,” noting that “the project has not yet been announced as an investment opportunity and it needs time for the design to be completed and then it will be announced as an investment opportunity.”
