Member of the Parliamentary Security Committee, Representative Yasser Iskandar, confirmed today, Saturday, that Iraq is seeking to implement the fortified airspace strategy, by obtaining air defense systems that secure its airspace from violations.

Iskandar told Al-Ma’louma, “An important part of Iraqi national security priorities is securing the atmosphere and preventing risks and violations in light of the unstable international and regional situation that may explode at any moment.”
He added, "There are several reasons behind the weakness of air defense capabilities, but the situation cannot be accepted in light of the serious challenges affecting the country's security and the repetition of violations against the official Iraqi forces from time to time."
He pointed out that "Iraq has actually begun to implement the strategy by acquiring some advanced systems to protect the airspace and important areas and create an umbrella that helps reduce violations according to the available capabilities."
Iraq seeks to develop its air defense capabilities through the acquisition of advanced systems capable of shooting down targets from a distance.
