Today, Sunday (April 21, 2024), the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee commented on the agreement between Iraq and America to contract to purchase helicopters and a drone system.
Committee member Ali Al-Bindawi told "Baghdad Today", "There is a government approach to significantly develop the air force, and there is support for this step by the House of Representatives by increasing financial allocations to purchase modern aircraft in addition to advanced air defense systems."
Al-Bindawi stated that “completing the deal to purchase any aircraft requires many years,” adding that “these aircraft are delivered in batches and not all at once, and we do not yet know the full details of the deal recently signed between Baghdad and Washington.”
He stressed that "we will work to host the figures responsible for this agreement in order to know the full details of the agreement and follow up on its implementation, in order to make allocations within the current year's budget."
Yesterday, Saturday, Defense Minister Thabet Muhammad Al-Abbasi revealed discussions between Iraq and America to contract to purchase helicopters and a drone system.
Al-Abbasi said in his speech during the opening of the Security and Defense Exhibition, which “Baghdad Today” attended, that “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani discussed with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin support for  F-16 aircraft , as well as contracting for Bell helicopters, and there is also a desire to In contracting for the drone system (Androtron).
He pointed out that "the government's directives are to support and upgrade the armed and security forces with the latest industrial developments and scientific discoveries, as well as to support national industries and investment opportunities, if any," indicating that "Iraq is in a safe and supportive hotspot for investment and industries in general and specialized and defense industries in particular."
He added that "54 companies, the majority of which are foreign companies, aspire to invest in Iraq and aspire to market their military equipment to Iraq," stressing that "the Ministry of Defense, in light of the Prime Minister's support in developing the capabilities of the armed forces and supporting the Ministry's infrastructure, has an ambition to cooperate with the companies participating in the Military Industries Exhibition." .
