US report: Turkey the biggest gainers from Iraq

Haider Ali Jawad -13/03/2013-7: 00 pm

    The
Washington Post said in a report Wednesday, that Turkey came up, ten
years after the American-led war to topple Saddam Hussein's regime in
Iraq, as the biggest winners of the competition for the Iraqi market

If the Americans have won the Iraq war, Iranians won the peace with their neighbour's nemesis, the Turks have won contracts.

    The
newspaper report said that Turkey's exports over the past decade has
risen by more than 25% in the year to 10.8 billion dollars in 2012,
making Iraq the second largest export market after Germany Turkey
despite Ankara's relations with Baghdad as long as the thoroughness of
    bitterness.

"Although Iran is the largest foreign force in Iraq
today window, the Turkish presence on the streets of Baghdad visible
more than any other State, and is reflected in everything from malls and
furniture shops and even brick sidewalks trademarked Turkish".

    However,
the Kurdistan region is the lion's share of the Turkish business, which
accounts for about 70% of Turkey's exports to Iraq.

    In contrast
is a relationship with other parts of the country, Ankara aggravated by
political differences has made Baghdad reluctant to grant Turkish
    companies of new Government contracts.

    With the expansion of the
Ankara economic and diplomatic relationships with Kurdistan, about a
group of Turkish business in the territory, including well-known banks
    and companies and hotels.

The Washington Post noted that this
success story largely represents the return of Turkey to its market,
which had obstructed at her during the years of war and sanctions and
    instability in the 1980s.

As a neighbor of Iraq and its
industrial base and rich agricultural land, businessmen are afraid to
work in challenging conditions, the advantages of Turkey's difficult for
    others to match.
