    [ltr]Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Ambassador to Cairo, Dhiyaa al-Dabas, visited the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Ahmed al-Tayib, and invited the latter to visit Iraq where he promised to adhere to the invitation.[/ltr]

    [ltr]A statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry received by IraqiNews.com cited “Tayib welcomed Dabas and showed interest in Iraq and his relations with the different Iraqi sects and sides.”[/ltr]

    [ltr]“Dabas reviewed the Iraqi situation with Tayib and the interest and respect of the Iraqis to Tayib and his role in the Islamic world in addition to the wish of the Iraqis to make al-Azhar as the mediator in setting the good relations among the Muslims and neglect the sedition,” the statement added.[/ltr]

    [ltr]“Dabas invited Tayib to visit Iraq due to his role that has positive consequences where Tayib promised to visit Iraq in the suitable time,” the statement concluded.[/ltr]
