The Ministry of Construction and Housing announced on Monday that it has begun launching plans to implement 11 new residential cities, while indicating that census data will provide a clearer and more accurate picture of the number of housing units required.
Ministry spokesman Nabil Al-Saffar said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "the results of the recent population census largely confirmed the accuracy of previous estimated statistics related to the need for housing units in Iraq."
He explained that "the final phase of the census is still under implementation," stressing that "it will provide a clearer and more accurate picture of the number of housing units required, in addition to determining the number of slums and the poverty rate."
He pointed out that "the data issued by the census will be the basis for launching new housing projects," noting that "the ministry has begun implementing plans to launch housing projects, including the establishment of five new cities, in addition to six other cities in a number of governorates."
