    [rtl]Thousands of workers in Germany protested against the merger of two companies in the steel industry, which could cause 4,000 people to lose their jobs.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Some 7,000 workers demonstrated in western Germany on Friday to protest against a planned merger between German firm Tysenkrupp and Tata Steel, a European steelmaker, which could lead to the termination of 4,000 people, Bloomberg. "[/rtl]
    [rtl]The head of the German Workers' Union, Rainer Hoffmann, accused the management of Tysenkrupp of disregarding the interests of the employees.[/rtl]
    [rtl]German Labor Minister Andrea Nahles said the move came at a time when "the future of Germany's steel industry is at stake."[/rtl]
    [rtl]Tesenkrupp and Tata Steel signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up a joint venture in the Netherlands, in a bid to help the struggling industry survive.[/rtl]
